Car Owners Prefer Independent Shops

The Consumer Reports magazine (August 2013 p 49) reports, that it is "common misconception…" that car owners have to take their cars "…to a dealer for maintenance and repair work to keep its warranty valid. In fact, not only can you take your car to an independent mechanic, but most car owners say they prefer these shops for repairs…".

This was the finding of a satisfaction survey conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center and these results were consistent with prior year surveys. They report, "… results are based on subscribers' experience with 145,000 vehicles …"
